Hello folks. My name is Kevin, and I’ve been into vw’s (mainly aircooled) for about 5 years or so. I have always been into cars in general, since my family owned automotive repair shop for quite sometime. The VW bug didn’t really bite me till about 2001 or 2002. Since then I had an iterest in them, but it wasn’t until 2004 that I purchased my first VW, 73 super beetle.

The car is far from perfect, but It’s not a basket case either. It was a good deal at the time, and the car has solid floors and heater channels. These were a big selling point for me. The front end of the car though, is another story. I needs a lot of work. As I write this right now, the car is sitting at a family friends body shop awaiting repair. I can’t wait to drive it.

The car has seen 2 different motors so far. I decided to build the motor that is currently in the car. That motor is a 1641cc. I was a novice when it came to acvw engine building, so he short block was assembled by a great Louisville area acvw mechanic by the alias of Dr. Bob. I decided to tackle the rest of the motor, and I finished up the motor in the next few weeks. Well, that motor sat out for a while.

October of 2005, I purchased a parts car. At the time it was not intended to be a parts car. The car was a running driver, with some bad floors, but that was not a huge concern as I could patch those for a while. Well, the title situation on the car became sort of odd, so I decided to make the car a parts car. I took the good running motor out of the car, and had it in my super within a few hours.

I drove the super for about a week with this motor, but the motor was showing its age, and then I encountered some carb problems, so I parked the car. The car sat pretty much untouched during the rest of 06, until March 2007. I purchased a set of 35mm Solex carbs, (SCAT kit) and installed them. The car is now sitting with these carbs, and I have yet to tr to start the car with them on it. I plan to send the car to Dr. Bob for him to tune the dual carbs, as I will admit I am not too great with one carb, much less 2 of them. I am learning more about them everyday though, so don’t get too worried. Thats a little to get you started about me, I will have more to post later. Until then. Peace!
