This past Saturday, I went to the New York City 2007 Auto Show. In a recent blog posting, I ranted about Volkswagen's lack of new concepts. While I do still believe they need to introduce some new concepts to the market, I feel that the remake of the Rabbit has its purpose. Since the beginning, the purpose of the Beetle was to be the economical car for the masses (and word domination). I believe the release of the Rabbit has returned back to that objective. It is affordable in a time when most cars start ... Read more >>

It appears that Volkswagen believes that us Volkswagen enthusiast are attracted to things of the past and expect nothing new or original from their future releases. With the plan to re-release the "Scirroco", the release of the "New Beetle" and now up and coming is the "Rabbit", when it comes to the past, the design of the aircooled vechicles, I've always thought was pure ingenius. BUT, as we enter the modern world, I believe latching on to old concept names such as "Beetle", is a cheap advertising ploy to make cash on great concepts from long ago. I want ... Read more >> |

Well, this winter was hard on my restoration. It was pretty darn cold, thus my progress has been pretty slow. It has been warming up lately, so I thought I would post my updates...
I opted NOT to send the chassis to the blaster, as I didn't have the funds, and I couldn't find anyone around that would only blast it. They all wanted to powdercoat it. While PC would be nice, it's definitely not in my budget.
So, after trying a few different tools, I finally got the 3M paint/rust stripper wheel at wal-mart, and put it on my trusty Dewalt ... Read more >>

2007 marks the 30th year since VW diesel engines were introduced to the US market. If you own one with the original engine, Volkswagen would like to talk to you http://www.vw.com/tdi/. They are in search of the oldest diesel rabbit and one with the most mileage. If you happen to have the oldest or the most mileage car, you will get to drive a Touareg V10 TDi at no cost.
Check it out! |

As you know, the VW Type1 engine didnt have an oil filter from factory, so many diferent ways to put a filter where developed over the years, here i talked about the old FRAM bypass filters, cause i have one, but another method - and a better one - was created a lot of time ago, i think arround late 60's, (they talk about this on the "How To Hotrod VW Engines" book by Bill Fisher - really good book - ), and it is called the "FullFlow" this cosist in the use of a modern fullflow filter, but ... With the world being as complex as it is, I strongly believe men are the simpliest aspect of its complexities. Think about it, you are a single guy, you own your own place, then you find yourself in a relationship. One thing leads to the next and you are living together and married. This is when things change from pure and simple to difficult and complex. Out of no where, you start hearing chatter about how the house needs to be restored. So, you take out a loan and you start remodeling your house for ... Read more >> |
